When I was 14, I played in a rock band and there were many Saturday nights that I came home terribly late. My Father was/is a Minister of music at our local Baptist Chruch. Note he has been there 50 years and I am so proud of him! But back when I was a teenager, I was thinking that my image was 'Rock Star' and not the master of playing old Hymns on the piano. My Dad would make sure that I was up early and ready to play the piano at Church. I play Broadway, Rock and Roll, Classical - - you name it - - but If I want to go to Church, I sit down and play the hymns on this album. It is my Church. That's how I worship and God gives me the notes - the timing - the expression. All I have to do is to listen. The hymns on this album were my Grandparent's favs. I knew, loved, and respected all four of my Grandparents. Dewey, Cecil, Ralph and Myrtle. They all had amazing gifts that I did not appreciate until later in life. Honestly, my piano style has a great deal to do with them. Especially, my Poppa Dewey. He could sing bass meaner and badder than anyone. I had the chance to also play the roaring 20's song "Charleston" and watch my Momma Cecil dance the Charleston. That's a treasure. This album is God and me - these arrangements don't come from a bunch of music arrangers in a studio with sheets of music. They come from my heart in the moment. I can't explain it, but if you ask me to play the exact arrangement on the album....it won't happen! Enjoy this album and please contact us at music@forrestersong.com if we can help with anything. In closing, I taught both of my Children to appreciate the art of playing and singing by using your ear and heart. I will fill you in on a little secret - They are way better than me.
